Subdivided We Stand

1. When I was nine I drew an illustrated calendar for my mother.
2. I took dance lessons (Bharat Natyam and Kathak) for five years.
3. In school I could only read English. Once, a new girl in my art class, who spoke fluent English, started to talk to me. She seemed to be saying something important. I looked into her eyes. I smiled when she smiled. I frowned when she frowned. At the end of our “conversation” she said, “Thank you;” the only words I understood.
4.During summer vacations in the lower Himalayas I collected fantastic leaves and flowers. I pressed them between blotting papers and left them to dry under my father’s dictinaries and thesaurus. In eleventh grade I made an album of the dried collection.
5.In college I learnt to write English.
6.In America I learnt to speak English.
7. Until forty, I thought reading fiction was a waste of my time. Now, more than a decade later, I’m a voracious consumer of novels and writing my first novel was one of the most pleasurable experience of my life.
8. Finally, I’m glad you did not tag me. Who would I tag in return?

I thought it’d be funny if we each could come up with a Top Ten List of Things We Are No Longer Allowed to Do, i.e. like the time I dressed up as a Roman Centurion on Good Friday and strolled into a hardware store.

As a child, someone once told me I was very didactic. I thought it was a compliment until I realised it was just a polite way of calling someone an annoying know-it-all.

It’s a surreal little moment, when the nine 8s are posted without reference to the series. Would the question be asked seeing a mosaic of nine 5s? It was an interesting question, and we may be “lucky” to have seen the snapshot of 8s.
