I posted some time back about the Invisible Children Tour coming to Pittsburgh in March. Here are details on a benefit event as part of that tour:

Local Organizations, Restaurants, Bands and Artists Team Up for Benefit

On Sunday, March 9, Creative TreeHouse will be hosting an art and music event to benefit Invisible Children, a San Diego-based non-profit organization working in Uganda to encourage the peace process and to educate and rehabilitate former child soldiers.

Doors will open at 6pm for art, food and live music from DJ OCTEEL. Talks by the Invisible Children Roadies and a screening of their Sunday documentary will begin at 7pm. To end the evening, local Pittsburgh musicians The Jim Dandies, Kellee Maize, and Lohio will perform. The cover charge is $10 and for a suggested $10 minimum donation attendees can purchase artwork, prints, or handmade goods from local artists and Invisible Children collaborators.

The evening will also include informational displays from the Univ. of Pitt branch of the Student Global AIDS Project and other local humanity groups. This event is sponsored by Creative TreeHouse, Your Mom’s Indie Department Store, the ONE Campaign, Giant Eagle, Flavorville Cafe, Nakturnal and more to come.

Invisible Children Rough Cut Screening

Creative TreeHouse will be showing a screening of the Invisible Children‘s rough cut documentary this Sunday, January 20 at 6pm.

Invisible Children is a movement that aims to bring relief to war-affected children, by raising awareness and bringing aid. The documentary is their primary awareness-building tool.

Can a story change the world?

In the spring of 2003, three young Americans from California left in search of such a story. What they found was a tragedy that disgusted and inspired them. Come, and discover the unseen.

This film is fast paced, with an MTV beat, made for the young and young at heart. This wonderfully crappy rock-and-roll documentary is something truly unique. To see Africa through young eyes is funny, and heart breaking, quick, and informative — all in the very same breath.

See this film, you will be forever changed.

Upcoming in Pittsburgh: mad creation of art for 24 solid hours

24 Hour Creative Marathon

Fun event coming up for artists, aspiring artists, and people who think they’re not artists but who are open to creativity:

The 24 Hour Creative Marathon is a two-part event, beginning with a 24-hour artistic marathon and culminating in a gallery show and sale the following day.

24 Hour Creative Marathon
Beginning Friday, September 28th, at 8pm, artists will have 24 hours to create a piece of work pertaining to the theme “Lost and Found.” Registration is FREE for marathon participation.

Please complete and send in the registration form to pre-register. Registrations will be accepted at the door, but we have a 150 registrant maximum. (Don’t be left out!)

Gallery Show
At 8pm the very next evening, the Creative Treehouse will feature these works in a gallery show, along with food, drinks and live music. All this for only $2 at the door. Artwork is available for purchase and all proceeds go towards supporting the Creative Treehouse.

Both events are open to the public. Artists of all levels — from professionals to amateurs to the curious and motivated — are invited to join us.

I’ll be there for the marathon and as much of the gallery show as I can stay awake for. Last year’s DrawMo has helped me feel bolder about drawing so I’m looking forward to taking on the challenge of the “Lost and Found” theme. (Which I voted for and thought was a super theme, but now feel rather cowed by. But which I will take on anyway.)

Find out more and register at the official 24 Hour Creative Marathon website.
